39: Pillars of the Earth (TV film)

Pillars of the Earth

The inevitable historical innaccuracies aside, this is totally watchable. Don't learn your history from it, but still a reasonable romp through the 12th century.

38: Ironclad

There just aren't enough 'medieval' movies out there for us fans, and even fewer good ones. Sometimes we just have to take what we can get.

This is not the worst medieval movie ever. Despite all the bad reviews, this film is totally watchable. Turn a blind eye to the ridiculous costumes and you will be alright. (Probably not enough of a budget to clad everyone in chainmail.)

Frought with historical innaccuracies, it still hits on many accuracies as well. Since the violence is very graphic, this movie is not recommended for those with a weak stomach. But I think it is also probably quite close to the mark. Watching a real, medieval battle would make most modern folks throw up, I suspect. I think Paul Giamatti was pretty good as King John.

31: "Kingdom of Heaven" Director's Cut (film)

Kingdom of Heaven - The Director's Cut

Forget the standard version...YOU NEED THIS!
A million times better than the theatrical release. The plot makes more sense, the characters are fuller, the battle scenes are better. After you have seen this, you won't be able to watch the regular version ever again!
It can be difficult to find though....
